Belangrijk protest tegen strengere abortuswetgeving in Spanje

On the 20 December 2013, the Spanish Council of Ministers of the right wing Spanish government approved a draft bill aiming at reforming the current law on sexual and reproductive health and rights. If approved, this new bill would lead to a 30 years step backwards in the rights of women and the failure of the Government to fulfil its fundamental role to promote gender equality and human rights.

PES Women President Zita Gurmai has said “all of Europe’s progressive forces should join us in making this stand and fight for the right of women to choose. We must fight to protect the sensible and compassionate decisions that have been made over the last years on fundamental women’s rights in Europe”.

On January 29, Brussels PSOE and the PES Belgium along with other sister party branches will gather in Brussels to support women in Spain and their mobilization of 1st February “El Tren de la Libertad” in Madrid. This demonstration is part of a wider mobilization in Europe as similar events are planned in several European cities on the same week.

When: 29 January 2014 at 17h.

Where: The meeting point is at the Spanish Embassy (19, Rue de la Science, Bruxelles).

Afterwards, we will walk to the European Parliament (Place Luxembourg, Bruxelles)

Action initiated by: European Humanist Federation (EHF), Abortionright.eu, the European Women’s Lobby (EWL), Marie Stopes International and the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPFEN)
