Let’s talk about BXL: Radicalisation, inclusion and government response

Last week began well for Brussels security forces, when they had just captured the Paris attacker Salah Abdeslam, after four months on the run. But then came the attacks in Brussels at the aiport and at Maalbeek metro station.

Youth radicalisation, terrorism and a lockdown continue to dominate Brussels’ public debate in the recent months. According to the United Nations some 500 youths have left Belgium to join the jihad in Syria — making our city one of the biggest exporters per capita of foreign fighters in Europe. So, it’s high time for some reflections on radicalisation, inclusion, and government response.
