Opkomend rechts-populisme in Europa

Bijeenkomst over rechts-populisme met René Cuperus

Dear friends,

after the double shocks of Brexit and a Trump presidency (three if you count the Dutch referendum on Ukraine, four if you count the presidential elections in Austria, five if…), finding a way to overcome the deep resentment and divide that exists in many of our societies, is even more urgent.

As you may know, several Brussels chapters of social-democrat parties from countries where elections will be held next year (FPÖ, SPD, PS, PvdA) are organising a series of meetings to discuss the rise of right-wing populism in Europe. The purpose is to identify ways in which we can address concerns of voters in such a way that they will not be chased into the arms of autocratic or worse leaders.

It is our pleasure to invite you for the next event in this series on Wednesday 30th of November, from 18:30, Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (www.fes-europe.eu), Rue du Taciturne 38, 1000 Brussel.

As guest speaker we have invited Rene Cuperus, Dutch and social democrat but also an outspoken critic of the current functioning of the EU and the role of the social-democrat parties in Europe as well as nationally. He is a researcher and writer who is Directior International Relations at the WBS, the think thank of the PvdA, and a regular columnist in NRC Handelsblad, the Netherlands’ most respectable daily newspaper. Rene will discuss the rise of right-wing populism, share some examples of instances where it was countered and discuss with the participants what we could do.
